Andersonville POW. Ga

Andersonville POW, this was the little town that was   close by the National Momument  to our POW. It is located 50 miles South of Macon GA.
Notice the Union and Confederate officer on the porch of  the the store.
This is one of the many monument to  Honor the fall soldiers  at this Andersonville POW camp National monument. This is the 150 years sense  this great tragedy . This is a look over the original camp where the prisoners of war The Union prisoners held by the Confederate  soldiers. were held for 18 month and 19,000 of them Died. There were 45,000 men crammed into a camp that was suppose to hold 10,000. No fresh water, the creek that ran through the camp was down stream of the guards and headquarter . The commander was later tried for crimes against humanity and Hung for his part in the torched and death of so many Union Soldiers  The camp ran from (14 months) 1863-1864 about. there were no shelters the men had to use there clothes. The Civil War claimed the lives of 750,000 people.
They have individual tomb stones for every person that died at the camp. The site of so many white markers in over whelming and does bring a tear to your eye that people can be so evil  to other Human being.



They build these tall wall around 26 acres of ground to keep the soldiers in captivity.
The sobering reality of Son, Brothers, father, husband killed.



So many people died that they could not each have there own grave the buried them is long  ditches  , with each soldiers touching shoulder with the next.
